There is a new (Fall 2014) series of very well-produced multi-media articles from Black Diamond and Powder Magazine called The Human Factor about avalanche risk assessment and decision-making. It is a very interesting examination of the factors outside of the snow science – the psychological factors – that influence how and why we make decisions that are not always consistent with the rational data we observe. It is the most in-depth examination of this critical topic I have ever seen and it is highly recommended.
